Ananias Foundation
The Ananias Foundation is a groundbreaking nonprofit that seeks to stop domestic abuse at its source by helping perpetrators change their behavior. All their materials are free, accessible, and based on proven counseling models and the experiences of a 16-years reformed batterer. I worked with the foundation to create a 2-minute animated video explaining what they do.
“I can't say enough great things about Rosie's work and the delight it is to work with her. She takes great care to understand the audience and desired tone, and is highly accountable and willing to share ideas. I don't give accolades if they are not deserved, but in Rosie's case, I could make no higher recommendation.”
Milton Milloy, Director of Operations
We started by co-writing the script, focusing on plain language and a simple question: why don’t we try to stop domestic abuse at its source, instead of focusing all our efforts on the consequences? Next came character design: a fun but tricky process since we wanted to avoid suggesting any particular gender. We started with some unfortunate-looking aliens (below), progressed to bird-humans, and ended with human-like birds - albatrosses to be exact, since they mate for life.
Once we’d perfected the characters and finalized the script, I worked with the excellent Deanna Johnston to record the voiceover, chose the accompanying music, and illustrated and animated the video in Photoshop and After Effects.
