BRAC

BRAC partnered with the World Bank and Government of Zambia on their Supporting Women’s Livelihood Initiative, helping ultra-poor women overcome the dual challenges of poverty and gender inequality. I came on board to illustrate a series of training manuals on business skills, life skills, and sexual and reproductive health.

“Our team has really, truly enjoyed working with Rosie on this contract and has been so incredibly impressed with her amazing talent, responsiveness, and understanding of our needs. Thank you so very much for making this process and experience so wonderful! We will definitely come back knocking at your door in the future."

Dristy Shrestha, Technical Advisor

The majority of women who received these trainings were unable to read or write, so having illustrations that could “stand alone” was key to the success of the program. We opted for a simple, colorful style that clearly communicated the training concepts and examples through body language, facial expressions, symbols, and other visual storytelling tools. Each scene also had to reflect the cultural context of Zambia, from fabric patterns and hairstyles to furniture and cooking equipment. The project has now wrapped and received some great feedback from participants - read it here!
